Shasta Springs Kodachrome

Huacaya Herdsire (Male) Medium Fawn, Medium Brown, Bay Black

AOA# 30960008 DOB: 6/15/200818 yrs
Shasta is a beautiful harlequin boy out of some rare appy genetics. He appears to have gotten his spots from his mother, an import. His first cria on our farm appears to be harlequin! Second cria, a female, well--the jury is still out on her. She appears to be going through a color change, maybe a platinum appaloosa! Shasta has medium bone and for a nine year old boy he looks darn good! We have repeated his breedings from last year and can't wait to see what he produces next year.

Illini's Pippi with Lyberty and Rockstar
Illini's Pippi is very unique and consistently creates one-of-a-kind offspring. She's a compact animal with strong bone. She sports a nice fleece with a soft hand, as well as consistency throughout her varying colors. Temperament wise, she's extremely easy going - another awesome trait she's been passing on to her kids. Now, let's get to the good part - her color pattern! She's hard to miss with those stark white front legs and cute little speckled feet. She starts dark (nearly black) in her ...

With tremendous excitement and a whole lot of fanfare, Plateau Breeze Ranch proudly welcomes the ultra-rare harlequin male, Koda Diablo of Illini alpaca!

Koda Diablo arrives not just as a new herdsire, but as a statement — a stunning blend of rare appaloosa genetics, striking harlequin coloration, and proven production power. His lineage, presence, and the exceptional quality of his crias make him a remarkable addition to our breeding program.

His unique patterning is inherited from his imported sire Shasta Springs Kodachrome, a deceased harlequin herdsire out of more rarely used spotted lines. This makes Diablo even more special, and his strong, balanced frame make him a standout everywhere he goes. His notable ancestors are of course his sire, Kodachrome, SCF Lucky Luciano (3xCC, 1xRC, 5xblue, an appaloosa Harlequin producer), Tilama-Chapoco -A Producer of muliple Appaloosa Harlequins, Chilean Import. and His dam, Illini’s Pippi, is a fancy female with stark white front legs and a beautifully mottled body (pictured, harlequin Confetti Daughter, Appaloosa Harlequin Producer and finally Vintage Cashmere Confetti (pictured) Harlequin Appaloosa. And now, Diablo steps onto the pastures of Plateau Breeze Ranch ready to elevate our harlequin and appaloosa lines to an entirely new level.

Koda Diablo expresses a genetic architecture characteristic of high-expression appaloosa/harlequin phenotypes, driven by the interaction of pigment-instability alleles inherited from both his sire, Shasta Springs Kodachrome, and his dam, Illini’s Pippi. Kodachrome contributes a multicolor genotype marked by mosaic melanocyte behavior, dilution-zone variability, and polygenic pattern-enabling loci that disrupt uniform eumelanin deposition. Pippi adds a complementary set of dark-based eumelanin alleles and modifier genes that intensify pigment contrast and support the formation of sharply defined dark–light transitions. The resulting genotype produces Koda Diablo’s loud, born-that-way appaloosa/harlequin phenotype, characterized by multi-zone pigment suppression, irregular melanocyte migration, and dilution-driven marbling across a dark fawn/true black base. His proven ability to produce patterned offspring indicates the presence of at least one dominant pattern-associated allele and multiple dilution modifiers, positioning him as a genetically potent sire for transmitting high-contrast, large-format appaloosa and harlequin expression. His architecture functions as a strong pattern initiator and amplifier, making him a valuable source of polygenic pattern instability, deep eumelanin anchoring, and heritable high-expression spotting in patterned breeding programs.

This is more than a welcome.
It’s a celebration of possibility, color, and the future of our herd.

Welcome to your new home, Koda Diablo — the breeze just got a whole lot brighter at Plateau Breeze Ranch.
